Data Protection and Freedom of Information logo

Information governance is a framework that brings together all the requirements, standards and best practice that apply to the handling of information to ensure compliance with the law, including:

Data Protection Act 1998
Freedom of Information Act 2000
Environmental Information Regulations
Implementation of government guidance
Monitoring and improvement

It is designed to assist with the application of rules concerning confidentiality, privacy, data security, consent, disclosure and access to records.

Information governance is everybody's business and responsibility. Make sure you're aware of what it means for you in your role.
