Story Lab - 14 July to 15 September
The Summer Reading Challenge, aimed at children aged 4-11 years, inspires children to read in the long summer break when their reading skills can decline without the regular reading activity at school. Research shows that taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge can contribute towards preventing the 'summer holiday dip' in reading motivation and attainment.
Children can join at any Kent Library from 14 July to 15 September - it's FREE!
The 2012 theme is Story Lab – the adults have forgotten how to tell tales to the children; it’s up to the Story Lab kids to save the city by seeking out stories for everyone to share! The Challenge is simple – children help the Story Lab kids by reading any books they like - fact books, stories, joke books, picture books - during the holidays and can keep track of the fun in their very own Story Lab model. There are great scratch and sniff stickers to collect along the way and a certificate and medal for every child who completes the Challenge by reading 6 books. Audio books count too!
Story Lab will have a link to the 2012 Olympics and is an official project in the Cultural Olympiad’s London 2012 Festival.
