Word Magnets from triptico.co.uk [direct link]
Suitable for: KS1 & 2
This has been a favourite of mine for some time now. It cuts up a sentence for children to rearrange on the IWB.
You select 'Use the Resource', wait a few moments for the 'next' button to appear and then type a sentence. You are then offered a choice of backgrounds, (I never use these). Then choose 'next' and your sentence will be chopped up.
Top tip: type a finger space before punctuation to get them on separate magnets.
Words can be coloured (select the cross to stop changing the colours). You can add words as you go and remove them. The remove botton at the top right-hand-side deletes every magnet that you then click. So remember to switch it off when you have finished deleting words that you didn't want.

This is another resource that I only came across by using twitter, thanks to the superbly helpful
Furbles , Alec McEachran. It offers an unusual insight into the structure of numbers, in terms of their prime factors. Numbers are presented as nested sets of small black dots. Three is presented as a blue circle enclosing three dots; a ’set of three’. Six is presented as a set of three sets of two dots, or as a set of two sets of three dots.@tombarrett for highlighting this one.

This site lets you create collage pictures very much in the style of Archimboldo. It's a lovely little modelling activity.
Why not use this as a Modelling activity to create pictures in the style of Archimboldo or animals after you have read Where The Wild Things Are. (Don't forget that this site exists too: Build Your Wild Self )
As with any site which contains user generated content, the gallery carries a very small risk of pictures created which are intented to show something inappropriate.

This site is full of amazing photos and videos of wildlife. (The videos and photos can be dowloaded for use offline too).
The videos make a great starting point for writing.

Chinese New Year [direct link]

Chinese New Year is fast approaching, 14th February, (the first weekend of the holiday). The Kent ICT Chinese New Year pages have been updated for 2010.
There are lots of information pages to download including Kanji script for writng in Chinese, a how to for holding Chop Sticks and a Hong Bow maker.

Scratch is a free to download piece of software enabling children to create interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art. Then to share those creations on the web.
Children create activities by slotting together program jigsaw pieces.

SymbolWorld is a website created by Widgit Software, dedicated to people who use symbols. It has material for all ages and includes personal contributions, stories and learning materials.
SymbolWorld is designed to have clear easy navigation with large buttons for any links.

The Ready Register has been around for a number of years now. It has proved really useful, but it did have flaws. One such flaw was the method of saving names. It was never very obvious how the names were saved. Also, RM networks did not always allow this register to store these names. With these things in mind Kent ICT has a new Ready Register.

Literactive Interactive Big Books [direct link]
Suitable for: FS / KS1
This is a great site for interactive big books. To use them you must register first. Then follow the 3 Little Pigs link to the e- Picture Books. The books are organised into levels / stages and include some lovely animations.
Although you can click on individual words to hear them, it is awkward as they are segmented into an American phonics system. This system includes the consonant clusters(e.g. 'cl' as one sound ) rather than the adjacent consonants used in England (e.g. 'c' + 'l'). To get around this I click on each word and move the mouse pointer quickly to prevent them segmenting.
