How do I get started?

Click once on " Dartcom SIAMIV" ( You will find this at the bottom of the screen by the Start button) This will open up a new window. ( You may want to click on " Restore" to make a bigger screen).

  • Select "File" then "Open". Look in "Files of type". Make sure that it has "SIAMV images" in it ( Click on black arrow at side if this is not showing to reveal other options).
  • Double click on the image required. This will be the most recently "grabbed" image of that area.

Which image file do I need to view?
Listed below is the information you will need to interpret any named image.

Main images you may want to view

  • Visible light images ( These are labelled "C" images)
  • Infrared images (These are labelled "D" images)

Any image with a 2 will give you Western Europe

C2= Visible light image of Europe D2= Infrared image of Europe

A C2 image
 

Any image with TOT will give you a picture of the Total Globe

CTOT= Visible light image of total Globe
DTOT= Infrared image of total Globe

Any image with LR and LY will give you an infrared picture of North America and the Caribbean.

From Meteosat 7 we can also receive retransmitted data from the Meteosat 5 satellite, over the Indian Ocean. Any image with GMS will give you Asia

How do I get my still image onto a floppy disc?

These files take up a great deal of space. Make sure that you use a blank disc. (It will not tell you if the disc is full and you will save an empty file!)

  • From the menu bar select FILE .SAVE AS.
  • Click once on the file you need to save and its name should now appear in the "File name " box.
  • Pull down the menu to SAVE IN and choose 3 ½"Floppy (A:)
  • Having put your disc in the slot! Click on "Save"
  • Wait until the green light stops on the disc drive before removing disc

How do I get a still image onto an RM networked computer?
Logon as yourself

  • Open "Talking First Word" Red Level(This is found in "Communicating")
  • From the menu bar select Insert.picture..From file
  • LOOK IN 3 ½" Floppy A
  • Change "Files of type" box so that it says "All Files"
  • Click on file with the suffix "asi" or "asd"
  • Double click to open It will take a while .but it's worth it!

How do I save the information into the Shared work area?

  • From the menu bar select FILE.SAVE AS..SAVE IN " YOUR NAME ON " SERVER1"(N:)
  • Double click MY WORK..
  • Type in a filename of your choice
  • Click "save" The file is now saved in your work area
  • Close program down

How do I get this information into the children's shared work area?

  • Open "My work"
  • Click on SHARED DOCUMENTS
  • Open JUNIOR or INFANT AREA...Restore screen to a smaller size
  • Drag your FILE from "My Work" into required Shared file (e.g. YEAR 4) and drop Your file should now be in your shared work area!

How can the children use/view this satellite image?
The children can drag the image file from the shared work area into "My work". They can then click on the file and view the image/write information in the same document.

How can I view an animated image?
  • Select "File" then "Open"
  • Pull down menu bar of "Files of Type"
  • Select "SIAMIV animations"
  • Click on desired animation.
To close the animation, click the cross. Do not save.
