| The children will: • recognise and describe how people can improve or damage an environment • use a wide range of equipment and resources (including ICT) to gather information about local features and land use • use information gathered to make proposals to improve their local area | • Use maps and aerial photographs to find out information about traffic flow in the area • Use the information to draw maps showing safe crossing routes to school • Research and find out information about different types of crossings • Undertake traffic surveys on busy roads on the Estate • Record and present the information in a table • Design new “traffic calming” features • Create an ICT presentation to share your ideas with others |

| What the children did: • Used digital cameras and camcorders (Intel Movie Cameras) to record Traffic Flow in the area • Used the Internet to find out information about different types of traffic safety features (zebra and pelican crossings, subways) • Created graphs and tables to show traffic flow at different locations near to the school • Designed and drew new road safety features • Scanned and added these drawings to a PowerPoint presentation • Shared their proposals with children in other classes | ||
