Next Steps
The two year project to support Kent Primary schools’ using InfoMapper has now concluded. During this period over one hundred teachers attended training sessions across the County organised by members of the ICT Advisory Team and over eighty primary schools purchased an InfoMapper licence.
To ensure schools continue to use GIS, the Authority has trained Leading ICT Teachers in many Clusters, to provide where required, further training and support. Planned to coincide with the increase in the number of schools who have access to full broadband, the Authority hopes that this investment will result in more schools using in the future Digital Video, Communications Technology and the Internet to publish and share children’s work with a wider audience.
Having established a close working relationship with WebBased Ltd over the past two years, the Authority is pleased to note the Company have responded to recommendations and intend to release an up-dated version of the application to schools later in the year. Designed to simplify the process of viewing information and make resources created by schools available to all, the Authority will note with interest if these changes are well received both by present and new users.
Finally, the Authority seeks to re-iterate its position that it actively encourages schools to view and trial a range of GIS Mapping applications before deciding which to use. For schools requesting additional information on using GIS, the Authority recommend that interested parties click on the link below and view the materials stored on the recently launched South East Grid for Learning Mapping Projects Site.
