Activities
The children will:

• Know and locate well known Kent beaches on a map of the area

• Know and describe features found on a beach

• Give reasons why people visit the Kent Coast

• Know how human activity can improve or harm a coastal environment

  • Used the Internet to learn about coastal features
  • Visit Herne Bay and Whitstable
  • Plan and write on the computer stories and myths about the sea
  • Look on the beaches for evidence to show how human activity is polluting
  • Use digital cameras to photograph wildlife and natural features
  • Design posters to encourage visitors to travel to Herne Bay and Whitstable

Learning Outcomes

What the children did:

• Used Infomapper to locate on a map of the area popular Kent beaches

• Used photographs and images obtained from the internet to create a wall frieze about “Past and Present – A visit to the seaside”

• Wrote poems about marine life

• Planned and wrote their own stories about “Lily the Herne Bay Giant”

• Designed posters encouraging visitors to pollute or harm our beaches
