Introduction / revision
Introduction to PowerPoint as a tool for presentation.
Key vocabulary
PowerPoint. Slide show, presentation, folders, hard drive.
Main activities
A large display is used to show Hey Diddle Diddle. Discuss how this would appeal to younger children and how it could be improved.
How else could PowerPoint be used? Show an example which presents factual information: Habitats and food chains.
Discuss how the presentations are different because of the intended audiences. Explain purpose of Egyptians project.
Explain how to create a new folder on the hard drive. Working in pairs, pupils create a folder on the hard drive into which they will save all work connected with the project.
Plenary
Discuss importance of working with same person and using same laptop next session; check that they know the number. Revise how to access the new folder.
Lesson Two
Resources
Computers with Internet access
Introduction / revision
Discuss how to obtain information. What are the various sources? What are the advantages of the Internet? Why save sites to Favorites? Explain what a search engine does and how to use it.

Main activities
Create a folder in Favorites called Ancient Egypt. Using a child friendly search engine such as Ask Jeeves for Kids or Yahooligans, children search for information on Ancient Egypt. Save sites to Favorites.
Plenary
Review what sites have been found and share discoveries.
Lesson Three
Resources
Computers, data projector, laptop, screen.
Introduction / revision
Remind class of Internets sites saved to Favorites. Explain how to copy and paste pictures and text from the Internet and save in folder created in Lesson One.

Main activities
Using sites saved to Favorites, find suitable pictures and text, copy and paste these into folder ready for use in PowerPoint presentation.
Plenary
Review what has been found and share discoveries.
Lesson Four
Resources
A4 paper, pencils, clipboards.
Introduction / revision
Remind class that PowerPoint is a series of slides. Discuss importance of presentation with the choosen audience in mind.

Main activities
Create a story board on A4 paper consisting of 4 slides. Each slide to have a picture and some text written by child.

Review story boards and consider improvements to presentation and vocabulary
Lesson Five
Resources

Introduction / revision
Demonstrate how to set up a master slide and to create duplicate slides. Discuss how a colour scheme throughout the slide show might enhance the show and give it continuity.
Using PowerPoint 2000 - A word document guide

Main activities
Create a master slide in PowerPoint. Create set of four slides and begin building the presentation using the paper story boards and pictures saved into folder from the Internet. Write information in own words to accommpany the pictures. Save presentation.
Plenary
Review master slides and consider the suitability of the choice of background colours and fonts with choosen audience in mind.
Lesson Six

Introduction / revision
Demonstrate how to animate slides Explain how to view slide show.
Key vocabulary

Main activities
Animate slide one and continue work on remaining slides.
Plenary
Consider how much animation is effective when presenting factual information. How will the audience react to the animation? Do the ready-made sound animations enhance the show? What would be a better alternative? Stress importance of saving work.
Lesson Seven

Introduction / revision
Demonstrate how to record sound in PowerPoint.
Key vocabulary

Main activities
Record Narration. This requires some classroom management as there is a need for the minimum of background noise. It is easier if it is possible to remove one group at a time from the classroom to record their narration in a quiet spot. The remaining groups can continue with animating slides.
Plenary
Listen to and evaluate samples of recorded narrations.
Lesson Eight
Resources
Computers, laptop and data projector, screen
Introduction / revision
Remind children that their presentations are to be on show to parents and how they may not be able to be present throughout the evening to run the program. Explain how to overcome this problem.
Key vocabulary
timings, loop, slide transition, manually
Main activities
Demonstrate slide sorter view:
Show how to adjust the order of the slides. Children decide on final order of slides.
Explain how to set the show to run automatically and how to set the timings.
Explain how to loop the show to run continuously.
Children work on making show run with timings and looped.

Evaluate each show.
