The Downs Primary school in Kent run a weekly lunch radio station from a lap top. They play live over the Internet with music, news, reviews, competitions and much more! The show runs with Year 6 students acting as DJs and running the technology which allows them to share the radio station around the school.

They broadcast every Friday from about 12.30 onwards (classical music as a warm-up) and the show then begins at 1pm.
They would love to hear if others outside school can listen. Please contact

The Downs FM is run from the school library

Students from The Downs using computers in the school library.

The Downs FM is broadcast from a laptop acting as the server which then streams the signal to other machines.

The radio show is still in its early days, but their first shows have been very well received, with lots of positive comments from children and adults around the school as well as from LEA staff.

You can listen to a previous show on a part of their web site.

Other Internet Projects

As well as the adventurous Radio Internet project, The Downs, are constantly working on other projects too. Last year they carried out a project to create a 15 minute movie based on The Pirates of the Caribbean.

The Downs school's website is crammed full of all the different projects they have created. You can see all their work on their web site.
