| Using the Roamer in the Literacy Hour |
| Diana Thompson, Minster in Sheppey First School |
| As part of her NOF training, Diana Thompson decided to use the Roamer in the Literacy Hour with her Year 1 class. She wrote a big book, The Tale of the Sheppey Pigs. The story is based on a simple map of the island. Props were made for enactment. The Roamer took the part of the wolf, making his way round the island to the pigs' houses. The story was first introduced to the whole class. Readers were also made, for use by groups. The books include the Roamer commands, to help the group operate the Roamer for the story. In her evaluation, Diana reports on the success of this cross-curricular project. She also has a number of ideas for development next time.
