Horton Kirby Environmental Education Centre
NEW (March 2013) - Increase in prices. Due to an increase in our costs, we are raising the cost of visits here to £250 per class. However, any bookings made before the end of March (2013) will still be made at £200 per class. We hope in the very near future to be able to offer a loyalty card for those schools who use us more than once.
NEW (February 2013) - New website for Horton Kirby Environmental Education Centre
NEW (Februaury 2013) - Settlements - Improvements to the Village Detectives day. We have recently developed more resources and activities for this day. A chance for children to explore a settlement, discover its past and plan its future.
NEW - Rocking round Britain - an outreac
h opportunity on rocks available from Horton Kirby Environmental Education Centre. For only £200, a fully qualified and experienced teacher will visit your school for a whole day and teach a class through the use of a range of practical activities. The teacher will bring with them all the resources required to allow the children a real hands-on experience; including using microscopes to look at fossils, minerals and rocks, making fossils, making models of different rock processes, performing tests on rocks.
Over 700 children have already experienced this day during 2013. The evaluation from children, teachers, parents and Ofsted have been very positive..
What teachers have been saying
Vigo Village Primary March 2013 - 'It was the best science ever. I learned loads about rocks and I'm going to collect fossils'. Quote from one of the children. Had the perfect mixture of practical activities and information.
Kingshill Primary Feb 2013 - The children had a fantastic day and were still talking about it after the holidays. The subject of rocks and soils was brought to life.
Hildenborough Priamry Feb 2013 - The children enjoyed an interactive and imaginatively presented introduction to the world of rocks. Mr Berry's first class knowledge and enthusiasm was evident in the way that he answered all of the children's questions.
Bishops Down Primary School Jan 2013 - Wow! What an amazing day. The children were enthralled from the first minute and didn't want the day to end. They engaged in deep level learning through exciting hands-on practical activities. The common question is now 'When is Mr Berry coming back!'
Westborough Primary Jan 2103 - The children all engaged in the active, busy and practical learning, and had a throughly enjoyable day. The teachers appreciated all the resources being available (and cleared away!) and a gained some valuable tips. Thank you. There was a real learning buzz in the classroom.
Madginford Park Junior School Jan 2013 - The day was fun and exciting, and as a result the children are now fascinated by all things rocks based! Because the day was so hands on all the children were fully engaged throughout. They still remember the vast majority of what was taught, which is amazing considering the amount of vocabulary and number of new concepts introduced.. A superb day. Thank you.
Hartley Primary School Jan 2013 - The children were so engaged because the day was filled with fun activities to help their understanding. They loved the experiments.
Rolvenden Primary Dec 2012 - Every child was engaged from start to finish and they have learnt knowledge that will keep for a lifetime. A fantastic fun filled day full of high quality learning.
Roseacre Junior Nov 2012 - As class teachers, we felt that the visit well exceeded our expectations. The children thoroughly enjoyed the activities.
