Child Protection Conferences

What happens at the Conference?

The people present will say what they know and think about you and your family. This will mean talking about anything that worries them but also the good things. After this they have to decide whether you should receive a Child Protection Plan which will say what things need to happen to keep you safe.

Child Protection Conferences: A Guide for Parents and Carers.  This leaflet, produced by KSCB, explains what happens at a child protection conference.

What is a Child Protection Plan?

A Child Protection Plan outlines clearly what things have to happen and who has to make those things happen and by when to make sure your child is safe.  It will ask you to do things, it may ask a social worker to do an assessment and it may say that other services are needed for your family. You will be the most important person in the Plan, as you are key to keeping your child safe.

Following the conference, you will need to sign your agreement to the Child Protection Plan. You will receive a written copy of the Plan.

It is very important that you work to the agreed plan, together with the other people involved. If the plan is not followed, further action may be necessary to protect your child.

Who will know that my child has a Child Protection Plan?

We will only tell those people who need to know, such as your child’s teacher, your family doctor, and child’s school nurse/health visitor.
