Young Parents Group
Hi, my name is Kerry. I am a Young Parents Worker. Every Wednesday 12 noon – 2pm, I run a YAPS (Young Able Parents) group at Seashells with support from a Young Dads Worker and a crèche supervisor/development worker. This group provides support and information to young mums and dads in a welcoming, non judgmental environment. The group is free and is open to any expectant or young parent aged 21 or under.
We provide support in many areas including midwifery and health services. We receive support from other agencies such as Connexions, educational advisors, domestic abuse advisors and the sexual health team who are regular visitors to the group. The groups are fun; we often do cooking including sessions run by the Community Chef, weekly craft sessions and various trips out.
No booking is needed - just drop in. If you would like further information or feel like you would like a buddy to come to the group, please feel free to contact me on 01795 889233.
C Card
The C Card scheme is also run in the group and from Seashells. This service provides free condoms and Chlamydia screening to young people under 20. Registration for the card can also be carried out and once you are registered you can access free condoms where ever you see the C card logo. Outlets are from many local pharmacies, Doctors’ surgeries, Hospitals, and youth centre’s including the Sexual Health Clinic at the Healthy Living Centre (at Sheerness Leisure Centre). This young person’s clinic offers friendly confidential advice and information on issues such as contraception, pregnancy and sexual health and is open Wednesday's 3.30–5.30pm.
