What its like to be a volunteer

Come and join us!

Last year I was looking for an opportunity to do voluntary work with children, or animals or books and I happened to see an advertisement by the Children's Centre looking for volunteers. So off I went to meet the team.....

Everyone was very welcoming and, over a nice cuppa, we talked about the Centre and how I could get involved. Even though my career background isn't in childcare there were still plenty of ways to help - enthusiasm and commitment go a long way and I was offered the chance to support some of the weekly creches. I love the fun, curious, warm nature of pre-school children so this opportunity really appealed and I looked forward to working with them.

It's a happy, friendly place and that made it easy to settle in quickly. I had lots of fun helping out at the Centre and they were very supportive in giving me further training opportunities. This led me to decide on a new career in childcare and I'm now happily working at the Centre as well as at a local pre-school nursery where I get to see some familiar children's faces and enjoy helping with their ongoing development.
