Extra Mile in Kent

The National Extra Mile project is about raising the aspirations of children from deprived communities, and engaging them in their education.

During 2009-10 five schools in Kent have each been running two specific projects to raise the attainment and aspirations of their most disadvantaged students.

Eligibility for free school meals is taken as proxy indicator for disadvantage, but schools have extended their target groups of students beyond this based on their own knowledge of their students.

In 2010-11 the extra mile initiative will be rolled out in Kent to a further 25 schools.

These web pages briefly describe the activities and success of our 5 schools in 2009-10 and provide access to further information about extra mile.
