The development of a national recognition scheme for languages – the Languages Ladder – is one of three overarching objectives of the National Languages Strategy The scheme is designed to endorse achievement in language skills at all levels of competence for all ages in a wide range of languages.

Edexcel GCSE in Applied French
This qualification in now out of pilot and is generally available. New centres should register with Edexcel who will want to ensure the necessary ICT provision exists for the on-screen listening and reading tests.
OCR Asset Languages
OCR has added new languages to the Asset Languages suite of qualifications. Regulations have also been amended. For information go to: www.assetlanguages.org.uk.
AQA Level 1 Certificate
