Support for Schools

Targeted Support for Individual Schools is based on recommendations from the School Improvement Partners, analysis of data and consideration of the published criteria for engagement in each of the programmes.
RAYS (Raising Attainment in your School) is an intensive programme of funding and consultant support targeted at schools who have not met floor targets for a number of years. It is based on The Improving Schools Programme and is driven by a short term action plan on raising attainment and accelerating progress, developing teaching and learning and developing the school as a professional learning community.

The Improving Schools Programme is a school improvement programme which has a particular focus on schools with a history of low attainment in English and Mathematics. All school staff share responsibility for accelerating progress of learning to raise standards. At present there are 20 schools engaged in this programme.

Ensuring Success is a combination of the Improving Schools Programme and the Leading for Improvement Programme. It is directed towards schools where attainment is static or where either mathematics or literacy is below floor targets.

Every Child a Reader is an initiative designed to tackle the literacy difficulties that blight many children’s lives – particularly those of children who live in poverty. The project is funding the training of highly skilled Reading Recovery Teachers to provide early, intensive help to children most in need. Currently we have 50 schools who are engaged in the programme.

Communication, Language and Literacy Development Pilot (CLLD Pilot) is now in its second year. It is part of a National Government Pilot designed to improve pace and progression in phonics and early reading. This Pilot uses the recommendations of the ‘Rose Review’ and ‘Letters and Sounds’ programme to embed fun phonics into the EYFS and KS1 Curriculum. Currently 14 Kent schools are involved in the CLLD Pilot.

Leading Literacy Teachers - Kent is fortunate to have a bank of leading teachers, both KS1 and KS2, who have a wealth of experience that they are willing to share. They can help support the delivery of all aspects of literacy in the classroom including phonics, planning, guided sessions in reading and writing and assessment. The Leading Teachers can be commissioned by your School Improvement Partner.
