Information for Tutors
Welcome to the tutor section of the one-to-one tuition website. Here you will find further information about one-to-one tuition, as well as links to helpful documents and materials.
I am interested in being a tutor – what does one to one tuition involve?
One to one tuition is an individualised tuition programme, designed to help pupils that are not achieving their full potential in English and Maths. Each pupil on the programme will receive 10 hours of individual tuition that is tailored to their particular needs. The tutor will be paid for 12 hours, to allow for 2 hours preparation time, in which they are required to liaise with the class teacher.
All schools in Kent have the opportunity of participating in the one to one tuition programme, and will be looking to recruit tutors. As a tutor you will not be employed by the local authority and contract terms will be with individual schools.
Tuition is paid at a fixed hourly rate of £25. Schools will not be able to cover your travel expenses and payment will only be made for tuition delivered.
Tuition on the programme can only be carried out by a qualified tutor. This means;
-
Someone with qualified teacher status
-
An overseas qualified teacher eligible to teach in schools in England
-
NQTs in the summer before they achieve QTS
-
Those with teaching and subject qualifications from the HE or FE sectors
Tutors interested in offering tuition to secondary age pupils will need to be a specialist in either English or Maths. This means that they must have recent teaching experience in the subject, or be up to date with the curriculum.
How can I become a tutor on the one to one tuition scheme?
If you are interested in being a tutor you should submit your details using the form at:
We will then provide your details to schools in the area in which you wish to offer tuition. These schools will contact you to discuss tuition, and any contracts of employment will be made through them.
By submitting your application form you are providing your permission for your contact details to be shared with schools in Kent. We will not share your details with any other organisations or individuals.
When will tuition be offered?
This depends on how the school decides to offer tuition to its pupils. Some schools will offer tuition during the school day, while others will offer tuition after school, at weekends or during school holidays.
The one-to-one tuition programme will begin in September 2009, with the first wave of tuition being completed in the Autumn Term. There will be further funding available for the Spring Term, and the DCSF have committed to providing further funding for the following year.
