 Green Day 2010

http://www.cabe.org.uk/education/green-day

Green Day is a one-day event for schools about the relationship between climate change and the places where we live and learn. We hope that the training workshops will inspire Kent schools to host their own Green Day, 2010.

Training Workshops

31st March 2010 - Shorne Country Park, Gravesend

Due to the popularity of the original date an extra half-day workshop will run on:-

30th April 2010 - Singleton Environment Centre, Ashford

Green Day is an activity packed day about climate change and the built environment. It aims to make schools more sustainable and all of us more environmentally aware through whole school activities and cross-curricular learning.

The one day event Green is designed to be flexible for schools. The climate change activity kit for schools (see link below) is packed full of whole school and subject specific ideas to help plan a Green Day. It offers a menu of over a hundred activities for KS2 and KS3 which teachers can choose between and adapt. It also contains lots of useful links to other resources and can be easily adapted for KS1 and KS4. It’s also a great resource for staff INSET and training.
The CABE website also offers online training to support the event.

The training workshops support any teacher interested in improving the sustainability of their school and will include:

  • examining how the sustainability agenda complements current education and government policy
  • considering the journey towards becoming a ‘greener’ school
  • budgeting and how to achieve the greatest energy savings
  • engaging pupils through a Green Day curriculum
  • planning a successful Green Day event
  • obtaining further support and advice.

Kent's Green Day 2010 training session will be held on 31st March with CABE hosting the morning session, and the afternoon focusing on key issues from the Kent perspective. This will facilitate participating schools to hold their Green Day 2010 between 4th June and 2nd July.
This is a funded opportunity for Kent schools to become Green Day Champions and lead their area on the Green Day Project in 2011.

For more information about this event, please contact Jonathan Gershon, Celia Pocock or Claire Hollis.

Due to the popularity of this original date, CFE and E & R will be hosting an extra half-day workshop on 30th April at the Singleton Environment Centre, Ashford. The training is free to Kent schools.
