Employment Based Initial Teacher Training (EBITT)
The EBITT Route: The Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) is an employment-based route into Initial Teacher Training (ITT) whereby successful candidates will receive Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at the end of the programme. These programmes are designed for individuals, who are best-suited to on-the-job training and who have gained valuable experience in previous professions, to bring their various skills into teaching.

Schools that will support the GT programme: KCC EBITT links with all maintained or independent schools in the Kent County Council area. If you wish to train outside these areas, please visit the TDA website for a list of other training providers.
Funding for graduate teacher training: Schools can apply for salary and/or training grants or they can fund the training themselves, a fee of £4500 will be charged. Salary grants of £13,500 (based on 2011-2012 funding levels) are available only for trainees who are supernumerary i.e. not filling a vacancy.
School based training: Trainees who fill a vacancy & therefore not supernumerary must be experienced in schools and the school must commit to a maximum timetable of 80% allowing time for training, release for core days and a placement of 3 weeks in another school.

The Graduate Teacher Programme route into teaching has strict entry criteria set by the Training and Development Agency (TDA).
Kent County Council does not have any places on the Registered Teacher Programme (RTP) or PGCE.

It is best to try to find your own school but if you are unsuccessful you can apply without a school and, if you are successful at interview, the EBITT will try to match you to a post, although this cannot be guaranteed.
Interview process: You will be expected to (i) undertake brief written task, (ii) give a short presentation, (iii) participate in a group task and (iv) engage in a face to face interview. You will be made aware of the criteria for assessment and the interview questions beforehand.
Post interview: All candidates will be advised of the outcome of the interview. Successful trainees will then be expected to (i) attend an Induction Evening with an appropriate school based colleagues that will support them during the programme (Employment Based Trainer and/or Mentor), (ii) undertake pre-course training/tasks.
