Support Packages

In school support

• Individual school support- varying packages of Literacy and Numeracy Consultant support which respond to specific needs of individual schools. This support is commissioned by the School Improvement Partner.
• Ensuring Success – A package of teaching and learning consultant support which stems from the school’s own self evaluation.
• Intensifying Support Programme – An intensive package of teaching and learning consultant support to establish a Raising Attainment Plan. The programme includes a series of staff development sessions and additional literacy and numeracy support where required by the agreed plan.
• Primary Leadership Programme – This is a programme of development led by Primary Excellence Project Headteachers. Identified areas of focus are supported by Primary Strategy Consultants.
• Basic Skills Quality Mark - The Primary Strategy Team supports schools who wish to achieve this prestigious award.

Working with the clusters

• Liasing with the LEOs and cluster boards to support aspects of the cluster plans.

INSET programme

Development opportunities are provided which cover national and local priorities.

Examples include:

• Support and training for the Renewed Frameworks for literacy and mathematics including:
  • Intervention packages
  • Phonics, visual literacy
  • Problem solving , mental calculations
  • Cross curricular planning

Leading Teachers

• The appointment, development and deployment of the Leading Literacy and Numeracy Teacher teams.
• Supporting the use of the leading teachers within the clusters to demonstrate and support good practice.
• Provision of opportunities for the showcasing of leading teacher research and development work at annual conferences.
  

The wider strategy

Involvement in a wide variety of activities with colleagues from across the authority. Examples of this work include:

• Provision for children with additional needs
• Transition between KS1 and 2 and other phases of education
• Targeted work to reduce the gender attainment gaps, particularly in boys’ writing.
• Supporting Gifted and Talented project work.
• Promoting good practice in the use of ICT.
• Developing the use of formative and summative assessment
