Behaviour & Attendance

Photo Smiling boyThe underlying principles of the behaviour and attendance strand are;

  • Consistent, coherent and sustained approaches to teaching, behaviour, attendance and bullying
  • Building on the best of current policies and practice
  • Consultation and involvement of pupils, parents, carers and the community
  • Identification and sharing of good practice as it emerges

These principles shape the role of the consultants in promoting the teaching of positive behaviour and regular attendance. The quality of learning, teaching and behaviour are inseparable issues and the responsibility of all staff. Consultants therefore, work initially with senior leadership teams to lead developments with the whole-school staff.

There is no single solution to the problem of poor behaviour and consultants use a wide range of approaches to address the identified issues in each school;

School self-review

  • Auditing and reviewing -provide tools for the monitoring and evaluation of behaviour and attendance in the school
  • Support for developing and implementing action plans arising from the above processes
  • Developing evidence based practice
