Advanced Skills Teachers

ASTs are teachers who have been recognised through external assessment as having excellent classroom practice.

Our Main Responsibilities

ASTs support schools across Kent to enhance the quality of the teaching and learning with an aim of providing the best possible opportunities for children to achieve.

School based

School based ASTs are given increased non-contact time in order to share their skills and experience with other teachers, within their own school and in other Kent schools.

School based ASTs are available for support one day a week.

Central Team

The central team of ASTs and Advisory Teachers are part of the Advisory Service Kent, based in Maidstone and have a full time commitment to outreach across the county. The work of this central team complements and enhances the contribution made by school based ASTs.

How We Help Schools

  • Coach and mentor teachers to support their professional responsibilities and development.
  • Provide hands on support for teaching and learning within lessons.
  • Act as a partner during planning to stimulate creative approaches to learning.
  • Help teachers to embrace and develop systems and strategies to support the learning process.
