There will be revised assessment criteria for new awards from September 2007 and for renewals from March 2008. These can be found on the Basic Skills Agency website or through our link ‘Revised Guidance for the Quality Mark’.

More details can be obtained from Elaine Vokes, Denyse Irwin or Claire Butterworth at the East Malling Centre, or by telephone 01732 876626, any of the Primary Strategy Consultants, your PEP headteacher, School Improvement Partner or from the agency at qualitymark@basic-skills.co.uk or 020 7405 4017.

The Basic Skills website gives access to downloadable resources and key documents as well as access to Developing Effective Practice for all those schools who have achieved the award. Eligible schools need the access code available from any of the LA personnel listed above.

The number of Basic Skills awards achieved during 2006/7 has increased rapidly this year; all renewals have also been successful. By June 2007 there were 72 primary schools holding the award; 19 achieving for the first time, 7 for the second time and 9 for the third. There are another 20 preparing for assessment in autumn 2007.
