Kent LEP2 Bidder Day
Ashford International Hotel, 26 November 2009Posted: 26.11.09 | Nearly 200 people, including over 100 delegates from the private sector, attended the Kent LEP2 Bidder Day at Ashford International Hotel on 26 November 2009. The event was organised to provide potential bidders for Kent's second Local Education Partnership with an early indication of the project which encompasses those areas of Kent which are not included within Kent's first Local Education Partnership (i.e. Gravesham, Thanet & Swale).
The event included a range of presentations from keynote speakers covering all aspects of the programme, and provided prospective bidders with an invaluable opportunity to meet with the programme’s key stakeholders.

NB: The PowerPoints for the day have been saved as a single PDF. Please note that this does not include the snippet of video footage used as part of Bernard Clarke's presentation on the education vision for the programme. Delegates should note that there is a link to this video (in full) on the Delegate CD handed out at the event (ref. Secondary Strategy DVD Link: Learning Environments).
Return to MenuKier Group acquires stake in Kent’s BSF programme
Posted: 03.09.09 | Kier Group plc is now a key player in Kent’s first Local Education Partnership, after buying Telereal Trillium’s investment in the scheme.
The partnership was set up in October 2008 to deliver Kent's BSF programme in Gravesham, Thanet and Swale. Kier will now become the joint-owner of KLEP1 alongside Northgate Managed Services (the ICT Provider), Kent County Council and BSF Investments (the central investment business of national BSF Programme).
Kier was already in place as the principal constructor in KLEP1 and is responsible for transforming five schools in the current programme.
Kier, with Northgate and its construction partners, will immediately commence work on proposals for the second phase of projects in Gravesham and Thanet, which will begin during 2010.
Leader of Kent County Council, Paul Carter, said:
"Kier has a well-established reputation for their work in the education sector and their progress in Kent's current rebuilding programme is impressive.
“Their management of the programme will provide a well-timed boost to the local economy and construction industry. At a time of increased unemployment, we are equally pleased that Kier is committed to employing 70 percent of its workforce from Kent.
“The new schools will give our young people first class facilities that will transform education so it is fit for the 21st century."
Kier Director and General Manager, Mervyn Greer, said:
"Assuming the lead role in the partnership clearly demonstrates Kier's commitment to providing construction and support services to the education sector and the unique capabilities of the Group to invest in the long term development of the school infrastructure in Kent.
“Kent's ambition to transform the educational experience of pupils and increase educational opportunities for all has led to the county setting exceptionally high standards for the new and remodelled schools, and we are confident that by working in close partnership with KCC and the school community the new schools will be an inspiration for generations to come."

Kent BSF Programme Exhibition & Competition:
County Hall Gallery, Maidstone: 20-24 MarchPosted: 11.02.09 | To celebrate the start of construction of Kent's Wave 3 BSF Project and the establishment of first Kent Local Education Partnership (KLEP1), we are holding an exhibition at the County Hall Gallery, Sessions House, Maidstone, on 20, 23 & 24 March 2009. The exhibition will showcase the plans for the first 10 schools as well as illustrate the link between educational transformation and building design. The exhibition will also include interactive displays of the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) and sample ICT, Contractor displays on their role in the KLEP1 National Skills Academy for Construction, examples of innovative FF&E and videos showcasing aspects of the Kent BSF & Academies Programme.
In parallel with the exhibition, we are also running a Design a Learning Environment Competition for secondary school pupils. The competition is being facilitated by Gensler, a leading international architectural firm and the authority’s design champions, and will be supported by workshops and student/teacher resources for those participating in the competition. We are also offering a prize of £1,000 for school ICT equipment to the most inspirational design.
Workshop places are limited to four slots and will last approximately 90mins. The workshops and exhibition are seen as a precursor to school-based project work for students to develop their ideas into a formal design and produce a PowerPoint presentation outlining the thinking. Schools are invited to send parties of up to 15 students (with appropriate supervisory cover). If you would like to enter, please notify Adam Mckeown (details below) by
