DCSF Teachers' International Professional Development (TIPD)

What is TIPD?

Since its launch in August 2000, the TIPD programme has enabled over 750 teachers from Kent to undertake study visits to various parts of the world to see at first-hand how colleagues in other countries approach common themes and problems and to apply lessons learnt back in their own classrooms. Visits take place in school holidays and are fully funded by the DCSF.

Some quotes from Teachers:
  • "The best professional development ever!"
  • "The TIPD visit was an incredibly enriching experience both professionally and personally."
  • "I will take away with me the pleasure of getting to know my colleagues from the rest of Kent."
  • "Soak up as much of the culture and history of the country as possible. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our hosts."

Purpose

TIPD provides teachers with opportunities for international study visits or exchanges which enable them to experience good practice within a themed context, to carry out research and to share information with a network of other participants. The programme enhances international understanding and gives teachers first-hand experience of other educational systems, so that they acquire an understanding of world class standards and how they are achieved.
