International Women's Day: 8 March 2008

Celebrated annually, International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day which connects all women around the world with the aim of celebrating their achievements with large-scale events that honour women's advancement, with the aim of inspiring them to achieve their full potential and ensuring that women's equality is gained and maintained in all aspects of life.

As part of the celebrations this year, the Centre for Kentish Studies (CKS) will be giving two talks during March, they are:

Women in Kent by Alison Cresswell: 14 March 2008
Alison tells stories of women’s lives from the 15th to the 19th centuries recovered from the collections at CKS. The talk is based on her Women in Kent pack, which will be on sale at the talk.

Anna Maria Hussey by Liz Finn: 28 March 2008
A talk about the mycologist and botanical illustrator Anna Maria Hussey (1805 - 1853) whose diary of her holiday at Dover in 1836 is held at CKS.

Both talks will take place in the Lecture Theatre in Sessions House, County Hall, Maidstone and will begin at 1pm, lasting for about an hour. The talks are free and there is no need to book in advance.
