Social Worker Career Development

Following the guidelines of the CWDC, we have designed the Newly Qualified Social Workers Programme.  Click here to view the Newly Qualified Social Woker Induction Principles.  This combines to offer the Social Work Skills training to underpin the Consolidation Module of the PQ Specialist Social Work Award (Child Care). This training programme begins in the Autumn of each year.

A Core Programme of learning events that support key capabilities can be viewed on the Programme/Events Calendar.

Re-registration with the General Social Care Council (GSCC) requires all Social Workers to submit a Post-Registration Training and Learning form (PRTL). This may include a record of all training courses you have completed. A copy of your training record can be obtained through CSSPD on completion of the Training Record Form.  NB – the 5 required training/development days per year does not necessarily mean attendance/completion of formal training courses; it can include developing others (through teaching, mentoring, practice assessing) specific reading/research, or other activities where you can evidence personal and professional development.

For Social Work Assistants there is information on the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ3) Caring for Children and Young People - Not currently available, due to NVQs being superceded under Government guidelines.  SWAs may also apply to attend level 1 courses from the Core Training Programme.
