Occupational Health

By providing expert, professional advice to employees, managers and personnel on health issues that are affecting wellbeing and performance at work.  This includes, looking at how the health of an employee can affect their fitness for work and how their work can impact on their health.  The focus is on identifying and responding to health issues as early as possible, to support a healthy working environment for all.

Respecting confidentiality

Information given to Occupational Health is treated as strictly confidential.  Information is communicated respecting privacy and dignity and in accordance with Data Protection and access to medical records legislation.  Information is only shared with an employees written consent.

Services provided include:

  • Health Assessments
  • To ensure that a new employee is “fit for work” in the job they are being recruited to.

Health assessments relating to:

  • Sickness Absence
  • Early intervention to reduce risk or deteriorating health e.g. back problems
  • Changes in working environment that could impact on an employees health.

Health surveillance

For employees working with or in potentially harmful environment e.g. hazardous substances, night working

Professional and practical advice

  • On sickness absence management including rehabilitation, redeployment and job modification on topical health issues, requirements and good practice e.g.. communicable diseases.
  • On the development of policies and procedures to manage workplace health
  • On workplace aids and adaptations to support disabled employees
  • Sign posting to other Support Services e.g. Health and Safety, Support Line.

Providing statistical information

Highlighting trends and patterns to inform management decision making in improving employee health and fitness at work.

Occupational health services are provided by:

  • Occupational Health Physicians (Doctors)
