EARLY YEARS FREE ENTITLEMENT

Academic Year 2008/09

KCC School Term Dates are:

Term 1  Monday 1 September till Friday 24 October 2008 (40 school days or 8 weeks)

Term 2  Monday 3 November till Friday 19 December 2008 (35 school days or 7 weeks)

Term 3  Monday 5 January to Friday 13 February 2009 (30 school days or 6 weeks)

Term 4  Monday 23 February to Friday 3 April 2009  (30 school days or 6 weeks)

Term 5  Monday 20 April to Friday 22 May 2009  (24 school days or 4 weeks & 4 days)

Term 6  Monday 1 June to Monday 20 July 2009 (36 school days or 7 weeks & 1 day)

The maintained school year is 39 weeks or 195 days long and schools close to pupils for 5 staff training days so pupils receive 190 days education.  Funding from the DCSF for the PVI sector is only for 38 weeks but because many PVI providers try and open in line with their feeder schools we wish to make the free entitlement as flexible as possible by allowing PVI providers to offer the free entitlement for 190 days (38 weeks) across the academic year.  Thus, KCC will pay PVI providers who deliver the free entitlement for 38 weeks across the academic year in the following pattern:

Terms 1&2 (Autumn) 2008 – 14 weeks

Terms 3&4 (Spring) 2009 – 12 weeks

Terms 5&6 (Summer) 2009 – 12 weeks
