About FLOs and PSAs
Parental influences have a powerful effect upon children's attitides, achievements and life outcomes. The role of the FLO/PSA is to assist in tackling underachievement by working in partnership with families, parents, carers and pupils in a school context to enable pupils, particularly the most disadvantage, to have full access to educational opportunities and overcome barriers to learning and participation.
The FLO/PSA works directly with parents in a non-judgementatl way empowering them and thier families to get the most out of the educational opportunities available.
FLOs and PSas will focus on work on preventative and early intervention activities. They work in a schools context where presenting needs are below the thresholds that trigger the involvement of specialist services and other agencies.
Extended Services - FLO PSA Support
Enabling FLOs/PSAs to support Parents
FLOs/PSAs are line managed in their individual schools or by ESDMs. It is however vital that they should receive extra support by way of supervision. This is an important safeguard for those who work in this area. Supervision is provided by Senior FLOs.
Schools and ESDMs may also need advice and support on a variety of issues whether recruiting a FLO, administrating their funding or providing the appropriate professional development and training for their FLO/PSA
