Faith Tents

RE Day at Amherst School

The children of Amherst School enjoyed a whole school RE celebration day. The Partnership RE resource 'Faith tents' was used and all four tents were set up as the Sikh Gurdwara, Hindu Mandir, Muslim Mosque and the Jewish Synagogue.

This resource is available to all schools in the Partnership. If you would like to borrow it for your school and would like support in using the faith tents, please contact Kamal Cox at kamal.cox@kent.gov.uk

Community Cohesion

The department for Children, Schools and Families has published two key documents to support schools in developing this work:

  1. Guidance on the Duty to Promote Community Cohesion July 2007
  2. Curriculum Review: Diversity and Citizenship January 2007

The guidance describes community cohesion as working towards a society where there is:

  • a common vision and shared future;
  • a sense of belonging based on a shared view of individual rights and responsibilities and trust in local institutions to act fairly and to be open to scrutiny;
  • Fair access to life opportunities and support to enable people to reach their full potential
