The role of a Primary Excellence Project (PEP) Headteacher falls into three main areas:

1. To provide leadership and coaching for Headteachers and other senior managers, and to work with schools, groups, Local Learning Networks (LLNs) and LCSPs to promote high standards and achievement for all children and young people.

2. To promote professional development and identify appropriate providers of support and to act as a facilitator to enable others to achieve and sustain high quality education.

3. To act as a School Improvement Partner (SIP) for ten schools.

In effect this means that a PEP Head will undertake the following:

  • Support and challenge Heads and schools to raise achievement through identifying key priorities for school improvement.
  • Facilitate training and development within individual schools and support them to achieve the identified priorities
  • Analyse internal and external data and advise on strategies for improvement
  • Identify and share good practice
  • Provide CPD and commissioned support for school leaders and aspiring leaders including delivering the Kent Primary Leadership programme
  • Act as a Professional Advisor for headship appointments and where necessary undertake the Lead Officer role
  • Provide and facilitate continued professional development (CPD) through LLNs and LCSPs
  • Support NQTs, Deputy Heads through the Improving Together (ITN) programme
  • To fulfil the SIP role for ten schools and to undertake additional commissioned support for these schools as required.

In addition to this as PEP Head for Dartford West I am also involved in the following:

  • Partnership Team Meetings
  • Leading on actions within Priority 1 on the LYCPP
  • Attending the Executive Learning Committee and supporting decisions made by the committee
  • Liaison with other LLN PEP Heads to provide additional support as necessary within the LLN
  • Supporting Heads and other members of staff on a ‘needs led’ basis which varies greatly from school to school but hopefully ensures that staff in each school are well equipped to provide the best possible education for the children in their care.
