Specialist teachers who advise and train in our schools are:
JILL CUTTING
Behaviour
Jill works with pupils, parents, school staff and other agencies to meet the needs of primary school children experiencing emotional, social and behavioural difficulties.
BARBARA HOURIGAN
Behaviour
Barbara delivers the same support as Jill Cutting, but also works with the Secondary phase and is the Partnership Staff team’s main link to the Multi Agency Cascade Service.
GILL
Specialist Teacher for Bi-lingual and Minority Ethnic Achievement
Gill supports schools in developing their capacity to meet the needs of this group of children and young people. She supports early acquisition of English, uses strategies to raise achievement and helps pupils reach their potential.
ANTHONY CHAPMAN
Cognition and Learning
Anthony provides guidance and training to enable staff to manage the inclusion of pupils with learning needs in mainstream schools.
PETE FINDLEY
Communication and Interaction
Pete supports school staff and parents in meeting the needs of children with Communication and Interaction difficulties. He offers advice and training on meeting the needs of children with autism, Asperger’s syndrome and associated conditions.
MARGARET YOUNG
Cognition and Learning
Margaret provides guidance and training to enable staff to manage the inclusion of pupils with learning needs in mainstream schools. She carries out individual assessments to assist schools in the identification of children with Special Educational needs and offers advice on SEN systems, classroom management and dealing with individual cases.
ROB SLIGHT
ICT AST & Projects Officer
Rob manages ICT projects for our Partnership. He organises and delivers training and provides hands on support to schools in using and embedding ICT in the curriculum.
JAN STEELE and SALLY RICHARDSON
Educational Psychologists
Our EPs carry out Statutory Assessments. More frequently, at an informal level, they carry out observations and assessments of individual pupils and advise schools and parents on appropriate strategies. Our EPs also provide support and advice on whole school issues and lead joint problem-solving and joint planning at a number of different levels. They develop interventions to enable young people with Special Educational Needs to make best use of additional opportunities.
STEPHANIE HARVEY
Childcare Development Officer
Steph works with childcare providers to promote and support the expansion of existing and the development of new early years and out of school provision, to ensure financial viability and sustainability in the long term. She provides support and advice in the development of bids for Sure Start funding. Steph advises on issues such as: Ofsted, EYFS, health and safety, staff management, recruitment, retention and pay scales, risk assessment, policies & procedures, marketing, constitutions, legislation, and training for their Pre-schools & Out of School provisions.
STEVE CHARMAN
Extended Schools Development Manager
Steve works with schools to help them become centres for Community learning by extending the school day and providing the facility for local Community use, including Sports, ICT, Art, Adult Education, Revision courses, After School Clubs and holiday activities. He helps to further develop links with other agencies, eg Social Services, Health etc, which can offer support to children and families. Steve works with schools to develop childcare provision linked to an existing local provider or to a childminder network, and helps schools to develop the Extended Schools ‘Core Offer’.
DIANA STRAUS
Early Years SENCo
Diana visits early years settings to offer advice and support so practitioners feel confident to meet the Additional and Special Educational Needs of children under five years. She delivers training and works closely with colleagues in other agencies, eg health,

Education Welfare Officers
EWOs act on behalf of the LA to ensure schools, parents and carers comply with the statutory requirements relating to school attendance and access to education. Partnership working involving schools, families and other agencies is a key feature in supporting early intervention strategies used to improve attendance. Such strategies may include assemblies, new intake meetings, multi-agency meetings, Family Group Conferencing, register audits, Attendance and Exclusion Sweeps. EWOs are also responsible for the enforcement of legal sanctions relating to poor attendance such as Penalty Notices and prosecutions within the magistrates’ court.

LIZ ROSS
Pre-School Special Educational Needs Teacher
Liz supports individual children with Special Educational Needs by assessing those needs and ensuring that they are met. This includes ensuring good co-operation between all agencies involved. She works with Pre-School settings and also does home visits. Liz supports the transition of these children into mainstream.
ANNETTE HAIGH
Parent Support Advisor
Annette works closely with other agencies, pre-schools, primary and secondary schools to ensure that all children and young people can access a balanced curriculum and equal learning opportunities and that parents and carers are supported. She also supports parents and carers with any home/school issues or anxieties they may have, particularly around transition from pre-school to primary and from primary to secondary.
VIKKI BAILEY
Early Years Advisory Teacher
Vikki supports pre-school settings and advises them how to improve the quality of their provision. She delivers training, sign-posts settings to other agencies and is involved in the planning transition into mainstream.
RUTH CLEMENT and AMY KIRK
Speech and Language Therapists
Ruth and Amy work in the primary schools across the Partnership, supporting teaching staff in their work with children with language difficulties. Currently, they do not offer direct therapy for children, but offer assessment and advice, including strategies for use with whole classes and individuals as well as more specific language programmes that teaching staff can deliver. Ruth and Amy work closely with other Partnership staff, particularly the EPs and specialist teachers, to address children’s needs through as ‘joined up’ an approach as possible.
