National Enhancement
Please view the two documents below relating to the national enhancement:
- The Healthy Schools enhancement model is closely aligned to the well-being indicators, Child Health Strategy and 21st Century Schools. It enables schools to address national and local drivers and links to new policy developments.
- The National Healthy Schools Programme will be known in the future as Healthy Schools.
When referring to the new model you should refer to the Healthy Schools enhancement model (HSEM). - The Healthy Schools enhancement model will be delivered via 3 phases, and within each phase,
there are a number of stages that schools should complete. The phases schools will work through
concentrate on: Phase 1 – Planning our change Phase 2 – Delivering our change Phase 3 – Understanding what has changed - The Healthy Schools enhancement model is the start of a new journey, the emphasis is on continual
development. It will support schools in their provision for the personal learning and development
needs of children and young people. - The enhancement model is designed to enable schools to identify and realise meaningful outcomes
based on universal and targeted provision and support. Schools determine priorities based on a detailed needs analysis. - The Healthy Schools enhancement model should be delivered in line with a school’s existing
development and school improvement plans. It is not a stand alone model and has been designed
to be integrated across existing school planning and reporting. - To move to the Healthy Schools enhancement model, schools must have achieved National Healthy
School Status. - A set of ‘How To Guides’ and additional support materials are being developed to support schools
participate in the 8 stages of the Healthy Schools enhancement model.
