The number of young people involved with drugs misuse in Kent is increasing and the age at which young people and children are becoming involved is getting younger.

Change in Law for Purchasing Cigarettes - As of 1 October the legal age to purchase cigarettes changed from 16 to 18.  Please see attached document for further information. Legal Age for Purchasing Cigarettes

     Kent School Drugs Education purpose

    • To co-oordinate KCC CF&E approach to drug education initiatives and activities in line with the updated National Strategy 2003, Toward 2010, National Healthy Schools Programme, Every Child Matters and KDAAT - Young Person's Plan.
    • To support Kent Schools and Clusters in identifying their needs, planning and developing support for young people at risk and identifying best practice and training opportunities.
    • To support schools identifying drug incidents or issues by facilitating easy onward referral to treatment services and providing advice or guidance. 
    • Work will also address the needs of vulnerable young people, hard-to-reach groups that exist in disadvantaged communities.
    • To achieve equality of opportunity and increase access to quality drug education provision, resources and support for all children and young people, their parents/carers/families and those working to facilitate drug education activities in Kent.
