Training offered by Service:

The Minority Communities Achievement Service offers a range of training options under the following headings. All training can be delivered on a bespoke basis to school staff (Teachers, teaching assistants, learning mentors etc), Senior Leadership teams, Governors, Admin and support staff; LCSP teams and headteacher groups; external agencies and other professionals.
 
Community Cohesion and Race Equality
  • The Race Relations Amendment Act, the implication of the statutory duties for schools; developing policies, action plans and strategies to meet the duty; monitoring and measuring the impact of policies on race equality and community cohesion 
  • Identifying racial incidents, racial bullying and how to deal with them; Developing whole school policies to prevent racial bullying
  • What is Community Cohesion? What are the implications for the school, its ethos and curriculum; the extended schools agenda? How to connect to the local community and beyond? Completing the school SEF with Community Cohesion in mind
 
Raising the Attainment of Minority Ethnic children and young people
  • New Arrivals Excellence Programme – looks at the development of inclusive induction policies; strategies for supporting early learners of English as an Additional language in both primary and secondary schools;
  • Strategies to support the learning of Advanced Bilingual Learners as recommended in Excellence and Enjoyment – learning and teaching advanced bilingual learners (Primary National Strategy)
  • Developing a culturally inclusive curriculum – Looking at the impact of culture on access to education and learning for diverse ethnic groups. How to identify and remove barriers to accessing education and raising achievement. How to understand the needs of these vulnerable children and support them through the curriculum and resources
  • Strategies for supporting EAL learners through the curriculum for KS3/4- Training for all staff on supporting EAL learners through the curriculum. Bespoke training for curriculum/subject departments/faculties on strategies /resources for EAL learners
 
Leadership and Management
  • Supporting school management in completing a self evaluation with regard to the support of Minority Ethnic children and young people; race equality; community cohesion
  • Equalities and diversity in Kent – consider the impact of policies with regard to race equality and cultural diversity

Training offered in partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University: 

Projects:

MCAS Refugee and Traveller Achievement Team works in conjunction with schools and communities on projects to promote better race relations, improve ethnic declaration, raise attendance and achievement, enrich the curriculum and encourage parental participation. This partnership work is developed, agreed and confirmed to meet schools requirements through a Service Level Agreement.
