Attendance Targets

Under the Education (School Attendance Targets) (England) Regulations 2005, the governing body is required to agree with the local authority, attendance targets for reducing authorised and unauthorised absences from school.  These absences will be expressed as a percentage of the total possible attendance by pupils.  The regulations set out the dates for the setting and submission of these targets for the academic years 2005-6, 2006-7 and 2007-8.

Subject to the will of Parliament, the proposed Education (School Attendance Targets) (England) Regulations 2007 will replace the 2005 regulations from 1 September 2007 and will require schools to set a target for total school absences as well as for pupil groups whose absences exceed a given threshold.

Further information about the new regulations will be provided in due course.
