Annual Review & Survey

The Annual Review

Instructions regarding this are being emailed in March 2011 to schools with approved travel plans.

When a school submits a School Travel Plan for approval, it commits to carrying out an annual review in a specified month each year. This should generally involve a meeting of the school’s travel plan working group. The main agenda point of the meeting should be to look at the plan’s targets and action plan to establish how much progress has been made. New targets and actions should be established.

Your School Travel Plan Advisor will supply you with a form to document this (see below), and to ask you for feedback on difficulties and successes experienced. This allows us to pass on your concerns to the appropriate people and to keep your travel plan “live”. This year, we have also produced some guidance on how to complete the form.l

Re-writing your School Travel Plan

In some circumstances, when a school has expanded, moved site, or amalgamated with another school, we might ask you to re-write the School Travel Plan, or this might be required as part of a planning application. Your School Travel Plan Advisor will naturally guide you through the process, but please find below guidance to help you get started.

The Annual Survey

For the third successive year statistics from the census in January 2010 show that fewer pupils in Kent schools are using the car to get to school, and the numbers walking and cycling are increasing. Generally, schools with approved travel plans are also generally doing better with regard to sustainable transport than those without plans. It is therefore vital that the figures supplied are up to date. Schools with travel plans are required to provide mode of travel data as part of the school census, so realistically, data needs to be gathered on this in the autumn term in order to provide information in the January census. Please see guidance on carrying out this survey below.
